For the mountain pine beetle //[[dendroctonus_ponderosae|Dendroctonus ponderosae]]//, //exo//-brevicomin is one of two important aggregation pheromone components. It is produced by males as they emerge from the brood tree and synergizes the female produced component, (-)-//trans//-verbenol. Song et al.(2014) showed that CYP6CR1 epoxidized (//Z//)-6-nonen-2-one to 6,7-epoxynonan-2-one with very high specificity and substrate selectivity, as the penultimate step in //exo//-brevicomin biosynthesis.{{ ::6cr1.jpg?400 |}}
