pycnogonum

Pycnogonum litorale

  Subphylum : Chelicerata
  Class : Pycnogonida
  Order : Pantopoda
  Family : Pycnogonidae

Common name : sea spider

NCBI:txid261975

Annotation from assembly GCA_964442445.1, WGS project CAYUDV01 and associated TSA.

43 sequences including one pseudogene. The CYPome is remarkable by the presence of two CYP20 clan genes and one CYP16 clan gene, and absence of CYP4 clan genes.

Note the absence of CYP302A1, despite the identification of 22-hydroxylated ecdysteroids in this species (Bückmann et al., 1986). The conjugate 20-hydroxyecdysone-22-acetate is present in very large amounts, and may serve as defensive allelochemical, in contrast to the lower levels of 20-hydroxyecdysone which may serve as classical molting hormone (Tomaschko & Bückmann, 1993). The sea spiders may thus have two distinctly regulated ecdysteroid biosynthesis pathways. The identity of the 22-hydroylating enzyme in both pathways, in the absence of CYP302A1, is currently unknown.

A FASTA format file of the CYPome can be downloaded here

The distribution of genes by CYP clan is tabulated here.
