Activities of the orthologous CYP9Q in bees
Haas et al. (2022) analyzed genomic data for 75 bee species, and identified a syntenic locus with a small cluster of CYP9Q-like genes. They demonstrated by recombinant expression of 26 CYP9Q3 putative functional orthologs that detoxification of thiacloprid, imidacloprid and flupyradifurone is an evolutionary conserved mechanism across bee families. The figure below, from that landmark paper, shows the activity of baculovirus-expressed P450s on thiacloprid (TCP) and imidacloprid (IMD). The paper also report activities on flupyradifurone and on six model alkylcoumarins.
